Better Late Than Never: The Blog Begins

Hey everyone, I’m Alex — a general manager at a small company, and now, apparently, the proud owner of a blog.

I’ve been going back and forth on the idea of launching a personal site for a while. Why now? Well, the other day I stumbled across a note I’d written about the lifetime deal for Magic Pages. Turns out it was still available — and I thought, “Why not just go for it?”

These days, most people are moving away from blogs and focusing on social media. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, but social media feels more like entertainment to me — a place for quick takes, memes, and fleeting reactions. A blog, on the other hand, feels a bit more… intentional. But I’ve hesitated a lot. Will I actually have time to write? Will anyone even care to read it? Do I really have something to say?

And yet, there’s something grounding about writing things out — even just for myself. Sometimes you just need to get a thought out of your head and onto the page. Writing becomes a way to process, to reflect, and to look back later and think, “So that’s where my head was at.”

I also like the idea of organizing my thoughts more clearly — especially when it comes to tools or workflows I keep revisiting. Take this small example: I might go hunting for a Mac app, try a few, uninstall them because of deal-breaking flaws, and then move on. A few weeks later, I’ll find myself going down the same rabbit hole, remembering I rejected some options but not quite remembering why. Writing about it in a blog might keep me more disciplined — and maybe even help someone else in the same situation.

Funny enough, I actually bought the domain last year. I just never got around to doing anything with it. I looked at a bunch of options for how to run the blog, but eventually landed on Ghost. I wanted something clean, no distractions — no plugins or SEO checklists screaming for attention (hello, WordPress). That’s why I chose Magic Pages too — it handles the hosting and backups so I don’t have to.

As for the logo and design — that’s still a work in progress. I tend to work by intuition: I wait until inspiration hits or I stumble upon a layout that just clicks. Until then, things will be a bit bare-bones — and I’m okay with that.

I’m hoping to write at least one post a month, ideally once a week, though I know it’ll be tough at the start. I’m still figuring out the ideal length for posts. For now, I’m just writing as it comes. If you’re someone who’s also on the fence about starting a blog, or just curious how others get started — maybe you’ll find something here worth reading.

One fun question I got from AI was: “How will you stay motivated and not give up?” Honestly? No idea yet. Maybe part of the motivation is knowing I already paid for the tools — so now I better use them.

I’m also thinking about buying a minimalist theme — I really just want the words to stand on their own. Ghost 6 just dropped its alpha release, but most themes on ThemeForest are still built for Ghost 5. I’ll probably wait for official updates and theme compatibility — some of those older themes are already abandoned. I’m aiming for minimalism-minimalism. Just text, clean and simple.

Thanks for reading — and hey, let’s see where this goes.
